ELIGIBILITY

The Wood County Basketball Developmental League is designed to build strong fundamentals, teach game concepts, and create a fun, competitive environment for young athletes. Players are grouped by age and skill level to ensure balanced instruction and competition. We aim to grow the game across Wood County, serving athletes from:

Auburndale • Nekoosa • Pittsville • Port Edwards • Wisconsin Rapids • and more!

Our focus is on player development over wins and losses, helping athletes gain confidence, improve skills, and foster a love for basketball.

PLAYER GROUPINGS

To ensure competitive balance and the best learning environment, players are grouped as follows:

• 🏀 NCAA Division → Younger/Newer Players
• Primarily 2nd & 3rd graders who are new to basketball
• 🏀 G League Division → Developing Players
• 3rd graders with experience and 4th graders working on advanced skills
• 🏀 NBA Division → Advanced Players
• 4th & 5th graders focusing on higher-level concepts and competition
• Teams/Players may fluctuate throughout the season to ensure a fair competitive balance

WHAT IS THE WCDL

Each session is 2 hours:

1. Fundamentals & Skill Stations — 30 Minutes

• Drills focused on ball handling, passing, shooting, finishing

2. Half-Court Concept Work/Half-Court 3v3 — 30 Minutes

• Offensive spacing, concepts, cutting, decision-making
• Defensive positioning and teamwork

3. 3v3v3 Full-Court Games — 60 Minutes

A fast-paced, competitive format designed for more touches, more decisions, and more fun:

• Three 20-Minute Games per session
• Full-Court, Make-It-Take-It — score and stay on offense
• 3–5 Teams per Court – 4 to 6 players per team
• Teams rotate quickly to maximize playing time
• Designed to encourage quick decisions, urgency, competitiveness, and high energy
