Parent Code of Conduct — Cage Club / Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders

Cage Club's and Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program mission is to bring Wisconsin Rapids student-athletes, parents, coaches, and the Wisconsin Rapids community together to create a lifelong love of basketball for our players. To accomplish our mission, we facilitate an outstanding youth basketball program and provide resources and support that feed into our Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School basketball programs. Participation, opportunity, and instruction are emphasized in the youth program to give players a chance to enjoy and learn the game. Parents are also very involved in our program and are active participants in our many initiatives while supporting and often coaching the players. We ask all parents to help support this objective and the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program by abiding to the following Parent Code of Conduct.

As your son becomes involved in the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program, he will experience some of the most rewarding moments in his life. However, at times, especially in team sports, things may not go as you or your son wishes. You may feel that you or your son has no control over this issue either. This is understandable, especially if individual goals are put ahead of the team.

Playing time is always an emotional issue. In the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program, participation does not guarantee equal playing time during competition. While coaches are encouraged to make playing time as equal as possible (especially at the younger ages in our program), it is not promised. We all know that athletics and competition are filled with joys as well as pains. But most importantly, they're filled with opportunities to learn and grow to be a better person. Hopefully, the experiences your son gains through participation in the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program promote success as he continues with sports and life.

Alignment with the program is essential. Our culture is built on trust, accountability, and a shared commitment to the standards of the program.

  • I WILL REMEMBER THAT THIS PROGRAM IS ABOUT THE PLAYERS – NOT THE PARENTS!
  • I will attempt to relieve the pressure of competition, not increase it.
  • I will be supportive of the coach by:
  • Expecting my child to follow the Player Code of Conduct at all times
  • Bringing and picking up my child from practice on time
  • Promptly reading and responding to communications from the coach
  • Providing help when asked
  • Assisting to enforce building rules and showing respect of property while at practice and events, including keeping watch of siblings
  • Refraining from coaching my child from the stands
  • Addressing any issues with the coach in a private setting, never on the day of a game or in front of other players and parents
  • I will demonstrate good sportsmanship by applauding good play by our team as well as the opposing team and accept the results of each game
  • I will refrain from openly questioning a referee's judgment, setting a good example for the players.
  • I will refrain at all times from making negative or derogatory comments about players, coaches, officials, or fans while at an event and/or in a public place — remember that you are also responsible for extended family members and friends.
  • I will refrain at all times from using email or social media to post concerns, issues, or negative comments or dissatisfaction with the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program or its representatives, coaches, and/or players.
  • Open, respectful, and professional communication between parents and coaches is important to maintaining a healthy program culture. I understand that appropriate matters to raise directly with a coach include health or injury concerns, academic issues that may affect participation, and schedule conflicts or family situations.
  • I understand that certain topics — such as playing time, team strategy, and other players — fall strictly within the responsibility of the coaching staff and are not appropriate for parent discussions with coaches.
  • I will promptly report any issues or concerns to the coach, and if the issue needs further attention, I will contact a representative of the Cage Club Board.
  • I will assist the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program in providing volunteer hours at tournaments and other fundraising events, understanding that it is vital for the success of the program to have strong volunteer support from its parents. I understand this is a requirement of my child's participation in the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program.
  • I understand that my child's participation and standing on the team is never affected by my conduct as a parent. However, if I repeatedly or seriously violate this Code of Conduct, Wisconsin Rapids Cage Club may restrict my ability to attend practices, games, or tournaments, or may remove me from the gym or event, without any impact on my child's participation. Protecting the culture of the team will always come first.

I understand that failure to abide by this Code of Conduct could result in my being barred from attending Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program events, practices, or games, without any effect on my child's participation in the program. By registering my player to play in the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program, I hereby pledge to maintain a positive attitude and be responsible for my behavior, as well as helping to monitor and correct the behaviors of others during my child's participation in the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders Program.
